Tennis has a long history of tradition. However, there are two important events that seemed to sport from all others in the hearts and minds of those who play and enjoy it just stopped.

The other was the match between women's tennis star Billie Jean King and her male counterpart, Bobby Riggs. Their miraculousVictory over Riggs tennis stars the respect they have long sought.

Vulcanized rubber:

For hard rubber balls allowed in 1850 for playing outdoors we enjoy today, most tennis matches enjoyed on indoor courts are made. Similar to racquetball now uses "real tennis" as it was known to take the strategic corner walls of a royal court and the ball back to their opponents.

Tennis as we know it today was the first "grassTennis, "and made his debut in the higher classes in mid-1800 to enjoy as a way for lovers of a real sport without embarrassment the ladies.

Invented by Charles Goodyear, renowned Goodyear Tire, rubber, rubber balls are in play, instead of introducing the balls of wool, hair, wool, or cork wrapped in leather or rope and cloth, which was previously used.

The 2008 Pontiac G8 GT, a car, that since my eyes laid upon it’s stealthy bodice, was the moment I just had to review it. Revolutionary looking automobile to say the least. But at the time this new model arrived at the local dealer, it was a test demo, only usable by management and not available for sale. That was too bad, because I’ve heard such great press about this new Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 combatant. The reviewing morsels in my brainiac was at work, and here’s the visual verdict…

The exterior was clean and elegant, a far cry from it’s predecessor, the Grand Prix. Overall design cues was a carryover from Australia’s Holden model, so alot of the the parts shared well and looked world class. Additionally, the headlights were stylish, contained up-to-date projector beam glass. And also featured great looking chrome/black diamond-back chambers and sturdy lexan composites to resist cracking, fading and yellowing. Fit and finish far exceeded what I originally thought was average, body panels were tight and squeek and rattle free. The wheels size up to 18″ for the GT, and feature some fantastic performance Goodyear tires. Moreover, the trunk compartment was large enough to fit three bodies and a duffel bag.

Safety options were plentiful, dual frontal and side airbags were evident. Also thrown in are advanced onstar telematics with safe and sound, XM radio, and a very user friendly radio/CD/Ipod unit. Albeit, the red instrumentation is starting to get annoying in the Pontiac lineup. Long drives going well into the next morning will give bloodshot a whole new meaning with the sea of redness. I personally think they should do green, hmmm…yes green, much more pleasing to the eyes.

And now the complaint factory… Cheesy inside decor was something I never expected. Especially for such a coveted sedan, I was thrown by the futile use of hard black plastics. A trait that GM has suffered from in the past and can’t seem to get over with. It was too stark and bleak even for the likes of me. Also, the seats were comfy but lacked the side bolstering for lateral support, it fit more like a oversized isotoner glove than a catchers mitt. And finally, I never got to drive and try out the new rear wheel drive platform!! But I did get a taste of the 6.0L V8 on the startup, it had a subdued rumble with so much performance potential. It looked inviting and eventually would be addicting, is there a local G8-anonymous close by??

My final take on this bad boy, the car was a joy that goes above and beyond to appeal to the large sedan masses. If the Impala SS or Chrysler 300 was ever on your choice list, immediately consider the Pontiac G8 as family. This particular critique GT model rang in at just under $30,000, and with other cars similarly priced, there is about $1,700-2,800 (GT) between invoice and MSRP. This is my number one choice out of the large performance sedan segment, highly recommended and a lot to love!! Nice job Pontiac! Now let’s focus on a that new Firebird…hint, hint.

Ford and Shelby combined their efforts and created a muscle car to rival any other. It is also the first one that the two have designed and produced since 1967 when they created the first Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 edition Mustang.

This first model was built with a big block V8, 7 liter engine that had the ability to produce 360 horsepower. It was only around for a short time when it was replaced by the GT-500 King of the Road in 1969. But that hasn’t stopped this muscle car from becoming one of the most valuable cars on the market.

The 2007 Ford Shelby Cobra is based on the redesign that was created and made the North American Car of the Year and the Canadian Car of the Year – the 2005 GT-500. Not only is this one of the most affordable Mustangs you will ever find – but it is also one of the fastest.

Underneath the hood of this 2007 model is a V8, 5.4 liter engine that has the ability to push out 500 horsepower and 480 pound-ft of torque at 4,500 RPM. This engine is mated to a six speed manual transmission. Together they allow the Mustang to rev from 0 to 60 in 4.91 seconds.

It is available in two trims – the coupe and the powered soft top convertible. Standard to each model are leather seats, 500 watt sound system, and an in dash CD changer. It also comes with 18″ machined aluminum wheels that have Goodyear F1 tires. Racing stripes run down the side of both models though customers have the option of removing these. But what would a Mustang be without these stripes?

As with every car that we look at one of the biggest things that we look for in a car is power, handling, and of course safety! Having power is great – but if it is not safe what good is it to us? The 2007 Ford Shelby Mustang Cobra received a five star rating for frontal crash test as well as a four star rating for side impact. These scores came from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Clint Bowyer, the 26 year old savvy racer from Emporia, Kansas, started racing in motocross at the young age of five. He was a good on two wheels but soon discovered that he was even better on four wheels after his grandfather brought him to a dirt track in Humboldt, Kansas. His father, Chris Bowyer, wasn’t very happy with his second son’s decision at first because the family had already invested a lot of time and money into motorcycles and the young Clint Bowyer had shown a lot of potential. His older brother, Andy Bowyer, was racing motocross nationally. Eventually, Chris Bowyer supported his young son because of his enthusiasm. His mother lays claim that they weren’t in it to make him a NASCAR star but rather they did it because they enjoyed it as a family. After awhile, the whole family turned to four wheels and Chris even set up a shop in his storage lot near his towing company in Emporia. Even until this day, his parents and their dog follow the Cup circuit in a motor home to show their support to Bowyer and it has paid off.

Because Bowyer’s father had many drivers for customers, he would hang around race shops to try and pick their brains. By the time he was 15, he was driving short-bed Chevy pickup that he had put together with the spare parts from his father’s storage lot. He was also working at a Goodyear shop in middle school to pick up the tools of the trade. From there, he was taught what made a person successful with their cars.

Bowyer is a fierce competitor and the markings of a winner was clear from the get go. He won and liked it. When he’s on the race track, he’s in it to win the trophy. Since racing at the age of five, Bowyer has gone on to achieve over 200 wins and countless championships throughout the years. He broke into the street stocks scene in 1996 at age 17 during the Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas. He counts that as one of his most memorable races because an angry competitor had chased a flagman into a bathroom for 45 minutes and threatened to crush the winner, only to then realize that the winner was 17 years old. Dick Ross, who was tuning up Bowyer’s engine that night, realized that Bowyer was made out of special material when Bowyer managed to guide home a 50,000-pound fire truck, a 6-foot towing chain during a 10 mile stretch of two lane highway in central Kansas without getting a scratch on the vehicle.

4 years later, Bowyer went back to the Thunderhill Speedway and won the 2000 Modified championship and finished second in the Modified points at Lakeside Speedway. He continued to get 18 more wins, 32 top fives in 40 starts en route to the 2001 Modified Championships at Lakeside Speedway and Heartland Park. After that he was made the 2002 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Midwest Champion after another Modified Championship at Lakeside Speedway and a Late Model crown at 1-70 Speedway in Odessa. Bowyer has gone on to win a great many more championships when he began running for the NASCAR Busch Series in 2004.

His parents are still in awe at how much their son has achieved and they are still amazed when fans congratulate them. Although Bowyer now resides in North Carolina, he still enjoys going back home where people still remember him as Clint and not the NASCAR star. And like any Kansas native, he believes that the best barbecues can’t beat Kansas City’s barbecue.
